Awka, Nigeria — Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has launched a comprehensive investigation into a reported altercation between a lecturer and a student, following intense public reactions on social media.
The university identified the individuals involved as Dr. Chukwudi Okoye of the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies and Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student from the Department of History and International Studies.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the Office of the Vice-Chancellor assured that the matter is being treated with the highest level of seriousness. Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has directed a thorough, impartial, and transparent inquiry to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The university remains committed to fostering discipline, self-reliance, and excellence, ensuring that due process, fair hearing, and justice prevail,” the statement read.
Authorities urged all concerned parties and the public to remain calm while the investigation is underway, emphasizing that appropriate measures would be taken based on the findings.
Reaffirming its stance on academic and ethical integrity, UNIZIK reiterated that acts of misconduct or indiscipline would not be condoned within its academic environment.
