Nottingham, England — Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espírito Santo has confirmed that Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi is in a stable condition after sustaining an injury during Tuesday night’s Emirates FA Cup clash against Exeter City.
Awoniyi found the net in the first half, scoring Forest’s second goal of the match. The strike marked the 27-year-old’s second goal across all competitions for the club this season.
However, the forward was forced off late in the second half after suffering a broken nose from a heavy collision with Exeter goalkeeper Joe Whitworth. He was replaced by Chris Wood.
Speaking after the game, Santo provided reassurance about Awoniyi’s condition and commended the striker’s performance.
“It was a concussion and a broken nose,” the Portuguese tactician explained. “He was in a lot of pain, but he still had a smile on his face because he scored for us and put in an incredible shift. We are happy for him.”
