Sokoto Monarch Dies in Bandits’ Captivity

The Sarkin Kudun Gatawa of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, has reportedly passed away while in the custody of bandits.

The news of his death was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon by one of his sons, who stated that the family had been informed of the tragic development.

Alhaji Bawa was abducted approximately a month ago and was recently seen in a viral video pleading with the Sokoto State Government, the Sultanate Council, and his family to pay the ransom demanded by his captors before the deadline set by the bandits.

In the video, the monarch, visibly distressed and wearing blood-stained clothes, appealed for urgent assistance, stating, “The bandits have given a deadline for the ransom, and if it is not paid, they will kill me.”

With his hands and legs chained, he added, “I have served the government for 74 years, including 45 years in public service. It is the government’s duty to come to my aid.”

Further details are yet to be released.
