The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized three petrol tankers transporting crude soy oil in the Apapa area of Lagos.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, NAFDAC revealed that the tankers had been loaded with the edible oil from an oil depot. The agency expressed concerns over potential public health risks, citing the possibility of contamination due to the tankers’ prior use for transporting petrol.
To prevent chemical contamination and safeguard public health, NAFDAC officials escorted the tankers to a processing facility in Sango-Ota. The crude soy oil has since been handed over to the agency’s Southwest Zonal Office for further regulatory action.
The statement read, “NAFDAC officials have seized three petrol tanker trucks in Apapa for allegedly transporting crude edible vegetable oil. The oil had been trans-loaded into the tankers from an edible oil depot. Concerned about potential health risks, NAFDAC officials escorted the tankers to a processing facility in Sango-Ota.”
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict regulations and conducting continuous surveillance to ensure public safety. The agency also urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to food and regulated products.
