Madrid, Spain — Espanyol’s Carlos Romero has acknowledged that his tough challenge on Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe was the only way to contain him.
Romero, who secured a late winner for Espanyol, narrowly escaped a red card following the controversial tackle on Mbappe during the match.
Reflecting on the incident, Romero stated, “Stopping Mbappe on the run is nearly impossible. I did what I thought was best at the moment. It was a harsh tackle, and I apologized immediately. Thankfully, it didn’t escalate beyond that.”
Romero expressed delight over the team’s victory, saying, “This win gives us renewed energy. We’ve been competing well and knew it would be a tough match with the stadium packed.”
He extended gratitude to the supporters, adding, “The atmosphere was incredible, and the fans played a huge role. These three points are crucial for what lies ahead.”
