NDLEA Arrests Indian Woman With 72 Parcels of Heroin

Kano, Nigeria  —  The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 42-year-old Indian woman, Ms. Neetu Neetu, for attempting to smuggle heroin disguised as chocolate into Nigeria.

Neetu was arrested at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Friday, March 14, after NDLEA operatives discovered 72 parcels of heroin meticulously factory-sealed in wafer wrappers inside her luggage. The illicit substance, weighing 11 kilograms, was intercepted during a routine inward clearance of a Qatar Airways flight QR1431 arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, via Vietnam and Doha.

Reacting to the arrest, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (rtd), highlighted the increasing trend of drug cartels using foreign nationals to traffic illicit substances through Nigeria’s borders. He commended the vigilant efforts of NDLEA officers, stating, “This arrest demonstrates the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks using advanced intelligence and modern technology.”

Series of Additional Drug Busts

Beyond Neetu’s arrest, NDLEA operatives conducted several other successful operations across Nigeria.

In Kano State, officers apprehended Michael Ogundele, 45, on March 20 at Gadar Tamburawa, along Zaria-Kano Road, with a 50-litre steel gas cylinder. After cutting it open using welding tools, they discovered 50,000 pills of Tramadol (225mg) concealed inside.

Similarly, on March 19, operatives arrested Sunday Ogar, 40, in Gunduwawa with 27kg of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis. Another suspect, Khadijah Abdullahi, 40, was caught on March 18 in Lungun Bulala Yalwa with 424 bottles of codeine-based syrup.

In Lagos State, NDLEA intercepted Olumuyiwa Kolawole and Samod Adisa in Mushin with 67.5kg of skunk, while 100.8kg of the same substance was recovered from a store belonging to two fleeing suspects in Anifowoshe, Mushin. Additionally, Isah Idris was nabbed in Apapa with 4.5kg of skunk, 600 grams of Tramadol (225mg), and 30 liters of codeine syrup on March 18.

On the same day, NDLEA operatives arrested Yahaya Mohamed in Ikotun with varying quantities of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.

The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to tackling drug trafficking, warning that traffickers would continue to face stringent law enforcement measures in the country.
