Abuja, Nigeria — The newly appointed head coach of the Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, will also take charge of the Home Eagles at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The decision was confirmed by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, during an interview.
“We have come out with the policy that whoever we employ as the Super Eagles coach will also be the one to manage the affairs of the CHAN Eagles,” Gusau stated. “We want players from the domestic league to be injected into the Super Eagles.”
The Home Eagles, representing Nigeria’s domestic league players, will return to the CHAN tournament after a six-year absence.
The team will learn its group stage opponents at the draw ceremony scheduled to take place at the International Convention Centre, Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday, January 15.
The CHAN tournament will begin on Saturday, February 1, 2025, and conclude with the final match on Friday, February 28, 2025.
