Ibadan – A devastating fire incident at GABSTAB Petrol Station in Ibadan has claimed the lives of a tanker driver and his motor boy. The fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday at the Orita Challenge outlet of the station, leaving the victims trapped in the inferno.
According to a statement by the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, the fire service was alerted to the emergency at around 5:15 a.m. Firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the blaze. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, the driver and his assistant had already been engulfed by the flames.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with thick smoke and intense heat making rescue efforts difficult. The cause of the fire remains unclear, but authorities have assured the public that an investigation will be conducted to determine what led to the tragic incident.
Mr. Akinyinka confirmed that the fire has been brought under control, preventing further damage to surrounding properties. He also urged fuel station operators and tanker drivers to adhere to strict safety protocols to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
As more details emerge, residents of the area have expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased, mourning the loss of lives in what could have been a preventable disaster.
