NIGERIA – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that there is nothing wrong if Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is impeached.
Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Wike emphasized that impeachment is a constitutional process, and if Fubara has committed any impeachable offense, he should be removed from office.
The former Rivers State governor expressed frustration over the ongoing political crisis in the state, stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law. He also criticized individuals within Fubara’s inner circle, suggesting that politics should be taken seriously.
“Politics is not play,” Wike said. “If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offense.”
His comments come amid mounting political tension in Rivers State. The state’s House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, recently issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Fubara, demanding that he re-present the 2025 budget.
This development follows a Supreme Court ruling, delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, which ordered 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume their legislative duties immediately.
The political crisis in Rivers State has continued to escalate, with both supporters and opponents of the governor locked in a power struggle over the state’s leadership.
