Nigeria: The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed over N941 million to approximately 7,000 students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), ranking the institution third highest in the country to receive the facility.
This was disclosed by the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, during a technical session with stakeholders on the Students’ Loan scheme in Jos, Plateau State.
Mr. Sawyerr emphasized the need for tertiary institutions to update their student information on the NELFUND portal and announced plans to convene a meeting with ICT Directors of beneficiary institutions to resolve technical issues. Governor Caleb Mutfwang praised the initiative, stating that it would democratize access to education and boost economic activities in institutions of higher learning. The Vice-Chancellor of UNIJOS, Professor Tanko Ishaya, confirmed receipt of the loan funds and encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity.
