Nigeria: President Bola Tinubu received Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio at the State House in Abuja on Monday.
President Bio arrived at 12:22 p.m. and was greeted by Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, and welcomed with traditional bagpipe music by the Presidential Guards Brigade.
Nigeria and Sierra Leone have maintained strong diplomatic ties since gaining independence in 1960 and 1961, respectively. As active members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union, both countries have collaborated on projects promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity. Notably, Nigeria played a crucial role in supporting Sierra Leone during its civil war from 1991 to 2002, leading ECOWAS peacekeeping efforts to restore regional calm.
