Suspected Serial Killer Murders Ogun University Student, Buries Body in Lagos

A 300-level student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), identified as Christiana Idowu, has been found dead after being abducted along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos last month. Christiana, who resided in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, was abducted while commuting to the University of Lagos, Yaba, where she was undergoing her industrial training.

The tragic incident has stirred grief and outrage within the Itaoluwo community as law enforcement agencies launched an investigation into her disappearance, which occurred in mid-August 2024. Her family had been desperately searching for her after receiving alarming communications from her kidnappers.

According to sources close to the investigation, Christiana was declared missing on August 19, 2024, after her abductors contacted her family using her WhatsApp account. The first contact came at 8:49 p.m., where they sent images of the victim via the platform’s ‘view once’ feature. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦1.5 million, but her family could only gather ₦350,000, which was immediately transferred as requested.

The payment was made through a bank deposit into a betting account, adding complexity to the investigation. After receiving the funds, the abductors demanded that the family forward the bank statement of the transaction to their email on August 23. However, after complying, the family received no further communication from the kidnappers.

Further investigation into Christiana’s bank account revealed suspicious financial transactions. It was discovered that funds were transferred from her account to a GTBank account and later withdrawn into a Wema Bank account linked to the primary suspect. Law enforcement tracked these transactions, and the BVN associated with the accounts was connected to the same individual, who was also active on social media, raising additional red flags.

Investigators continued to monitor the suspect’s phone activities, leading them to his family residence in Ikorodu. Personnel from the Nigerian Army’s 174 Battalion subsequently arrested the suspect at the location. Incriminating evidence, including Christiana’s mobile phone and email correspondences, tied the suspect to the crime. He later confessed to the murder, revealing that he had killed and buried Christiana in their house on August 3.

Disturbing revelations have since emerged, suggesting that this may not be the suspect’s first crime. Sources indicate that in 2018, his ex-girlfriend was killed in a similar manner, followed by his biological sister in 2020. Authorities are now intensifying their investigation to determine the full extent of the suspect’s criminal activities.

The brutal murder of Christiana Idowu has left her family and the community devastated, with calls for swift justice for the victim.
