Abuja, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted circulating social media allegations that one of its helicopters was used to deliver food supplies to armed bandits in Kogi State. The Force described the claims as “misleading, false, and entirely unfounded.”
This clarification was issued in a statement released on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who emphasized that the video in question documented a legitimate joint security operation, not the purported food distribution to criminal elements.
“The circulating narrative is inaccurate,” Adejobi noted. “The footage depicts a lawful security mission conducted in the Obajana area of Kogi State by a coalition of police operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters.”
According to the statement, the operation took place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, and formed part of a strategic mission aimed at curbing rising incidents of banditry and violent crimes in the region.
He added that the deployment of the helicopter was specifically for aerial support and surveillance, reinforcing ground troops engaged in the tactical operation.
Adejobi stressed the importance of public trust in security agencies, warning against the dangers of spreading unverified and sensational information capable of jeopardizing national security efforts.
“The Force urges the general public to disregard the falsehood being peddled and rely only on official police communication channels for accurate and credible updates,” the statement read.
Reiterating the police’s dedication to the protection of lives and property, the Force reassured citizens of its ongoing commitment to working collaboratively with all stakeholders in enhancing public safety.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains unwavering in its resolve to combat insecurity and will continue to pursue strategic measures that safeguard the nation,” Adejobi affirmed.
The statement concluded with a renewed call for responsible information sharing and stronger public cooperation in the fight against criminality.
