Osogbo, Nigeria — The Osun State Police Command has arrested Rauf Mutiu for allegedly planning to exhume his late parents’ remains to finalize the sale of their house.
The incident occurred in the Tinumola area of Dada Estate, Osogbo, and was reportedly halted by Mutiu’s siblings, who were not informed of his plans.
Mutiu, a former policeman, is accused of selling the family house, which contains the graves of their parents, for N16 million without the consent of his siblings. He was subsequently arrested and spent New Year’s Day in police custody.
Speaking to journalists, one of the siblings, Rafiu Teslim, accused Mutiu of being domineering and claimed he had issued threats to anyone challenging his actions. Two other siblings, Kadijat Rafiu and Rukayat Adedoyin, alleged that Mutiu, in collaboration with the family’s second-born, sold the property and attempted to relocate their parents’ graves without consulting the rest of the family.
Confirming the arrest, Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, stated that investigations are ongoing. She assured the public that the suspect would be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
