Ondo State Disburses N35m Loan to Widows of Fallen Heroes

Akure, Nigeria  — The Ondo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of fallen heroes’ families by disbursing N35 million in non-interest loans to their widows.

This announcement was made by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami, during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day held at the Akure Cenotaph. The event saw the presence of military personnel, families of fallen heroes, traditional leaders, and members of the Nigerian Legion.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Aiyedatiwa commended the military and paramilitary forces for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting the nation’s sovereignty. He assured the widows of continued government efforts to enhance their well-being and livelihood.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi, lauded the governor for prioritizing the welfare of the families left behind by fallen heroes. She also urged citizens to recognize and honor the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.

Three beneficiaries are Mrs. Christiana Ogunjobi, Mrs. Sarah Tanko, and Mrs. Elizabeth Owolemi who expressed gratitude to the state government for the initiative. They pledged to utilize the loans effectively and ensure timely repayment.

The ceremony featured symbolic tributes, including a minute of silence, a gun salute, the laying of wreaths, and the release of balloons symbolizing peace. The highlight of the event was the distribution of the loans to the widows.

The initiative demonstrates Ondo State’s commitment to supporting the families of those who have paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
