Ondo Police Arrest Seven Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victim

Akure, Nigeria  —  The Ondo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping, arresting seven suspected kidnappers and rescuing one victim in operations carried out across the state over the past three days.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olutokunbo Afolabi, disclosed this development while presenting the suspects to journalists in Akure.

According to Afolabi, the arrests were made possible through intelligence gathering and advanced technical support. The suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were apprehended at different locations.

Among those arrested is Aminu, who was captured on February 13 at Akure Garage in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko Northeast Local Government Area. Another suspect, Ishaku Abdul, a 40-year-old ex-convict, was also taken into custody by the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad (SAKS) following a security tip-off.

Afolabi revealed that Abdul had recently been released from a correctional facility, but growing suspicions from neighbors linked him to the recent surge in criminal activities in the area.

Ondo State has witnessed a rise in kidnapping cases over the past two weeks, instilling fear among residents and disrupting daily life. The wave of abductions has targeted both individuals and communities, prompting heightened security measures.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts to dismantle criminal networks and ensure the safety of the state’s residents.
