Benin City, Nigeria — The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has appointed Chief Emmanuel Iyase as the new Okao Eguae, overseeing Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms in Edo State.
This appointment follows the suspension of the Enigie of Ologbo, Prince Owen Jackson Akenzua, and the Enigie of Ehor, Chief D. E. Igiehon, who, along with 69 other Dukes, were alleged to have rebelled against the Benin monarchy.
As the first Okao Eguae from the Benin Palace, Chief Iyase is expected to reinforce the traditional leadership structure and ensure stability in the Dukedoms of Ikpoba-Okha and Uhunmwode local government areas.
During the Ekpomwen-abor ceremony at Ugha Ozolua within the Oba’s Palace, Oba Ewuare II advised the newly appointed leader to uphold ethical values and work in harmony with the Edionwere (elders) and other functionaries to maintain order and respect for the throne.
In response, Chief Iyase, accompanied by his family and well-wishers, expressed deep gratitude to the Oba for the honor. He pledged to serve with integrity, ensuring the well-being of the people and the continued development of the Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms.
