Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Taiwo Awoniyi has been named in the shortlist for the August 2023 Premier League Player of the Month prize.
The Nottingham Forest striker will compete against West Ham’s Jarod Bowen, Tottenham’s James Maddison, Rodri of Manchester City, Bryan Mbeumo of Brentfort, and Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma for the prize.
Awoniyi scored in each of Forest’s first three games in August, extending his scoring streak to seven consecutive Premier League matches that began in the previous season.
The Nigeria international is now the third African player to achieve this feat after Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (from Egypt) and and ex-Arsenal and Manchester City forward, Emmanuel Adebayor (from Togo).
Fans have until 12 pm on Monday, September 11, to vote for their favorite player on the EA SPORTS website.
The votes will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to determine the winner, who will be announced next week.
Awoniyi is also a member of the Super Eagles squad, which will play against São Tomé and Principe in their final 2023 AFCON Group A game at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Sunday, September 10.
