Nigerian Sports Minister hails gymnasts after successful tournament

Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, extended a warm welcome to Nigeria’s contingent that participated in the Malta Gymstars International Championship in Malta. The team of young gymnasts, representing Nigeria among 15 nations, achieved impressive results at the championship. The Nigerian TIG team, led by Coach Tony Asuquo, secured a total of 23 medals in Cottonera, Malta.

Senator Enoh conveyed his congratulations to the contingent on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending them for making Nigeria proud. He also expressed gratitude to the TIG Gymnastics club for their dedication to promoting gymnastics in Nigeria and encouraged them to continue their mission.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting sports at all levels, including grassroots development. Senator Enoh underlined the importance of nurturing young talents and helping them realize their potential in various sports disciplines.

Coach and founder of TIG Club, Anthony Asuquo, revealed that the team of seven junior gymnasts secured an impressive haul of 8 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Chiwendu Okpanku stood out as the third-best gymnast in the world and the top performer in the Vault category.

The success of Nigeria’s young gymnasts at the Malta Gymstars International Championship highlights the country’s potential in the world of sports and showcases the dedication of individuals and clubs working towards promoting athletic excellence.
