Kwara state, Nigeria: The Kwara State Police Command has arrested popular musician Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, following a petition by fellow musician Okunola Saheed, also known as Osupa
Portable faces allegations of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest was made pursuant to a valid warrant issued by a Magistrate Court in Ilorin. Portable was apprehended in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and is currently in custody pending further investigation and possible arraignment.
The allegations stem from Portable’s alleged use of a catchphrase associated with Osupa, prompting the latter to file a complaint. The case highlights the complexities of intellectual property and personal branding in the entertainment industry.
Portable has been involved in previous controversies, including a 2023 arrest for resisting police officers and a separate incident related to a luxury car deal. The police have confirmed that arrangements are being made to charge him in court without delay.
