Mbappé Backs Zidane for France National Team Role

Paris, FranceFrance captain Kylian Mbappé has expressed his admiration for Zinedine Zidane, stating he would be thrilled if the former Real Madrid coach becomes the next manager of the French national team.

Current France head coach Didier Deschamps has confirmed that he will step down following the 2026 FIFA World Cup., opening speculation about his successor. Zidane, a World Cup winner as a player, has been widely linked to the role.

Speaking to TF1, Mbappé acknowledged the ongoing discussions but emphasized that the decision is beyond his control.

“I’m not the one who decides. I try not to discuss it too much because it’s not my job, and there is already a manager in place. You must respect those currently in charge,” Mbappé said.

However, he reiterated his deep admiration for Zidane, adding:

“Everyone knows how much I love Zidane, but we have to respect Deschamps. If Zidane arrives, it would be a great pleasure, and I would be extremely happy—but it’s not my decision.”

Meanwhile, Mbappé has returned to the French squad as Deschamps named his team for the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals against Croatia. The squad announcement, made on Thursday, confirmed Mbappé’s inclusion for the crucial encounter.
