Kidnapped Sokoto Monarch Appeals to Government, Sultanate Council for Ransom Payment

Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Kudun Gatawa of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, who was abducted 23 days ago, has made an emotional plea to the Sokoto State Government, the Sultanate Council, and his family to pay the ransom demanded by his captors before the deadline.

In a video released over the weekend, Alhaji Bawa, visibly distressed with blood-stained clothes and his hands and feet chained, urged the government to intervene. He revealed that the bandits had set a deadline for the ransom payment and threatened to kill him if it was not met.

“I appeal to the government for help,” the traditional ruler said in the video. “I have served the government faithfully for 74 years, including 45 years in public service. It is now the government’s responsibility to assist me.”

Alhaji Bawa also called on the Sokoto Sultanate Council to act, noting that he and at least 86 others were being held captive by the bandits. “If the authorities don’t help me, no one else will,” he warned, pleading with his children and relatives to take action to secure his release.

He added, “I have no peace, and Allah knows this. For the sake of Allah and His Prophet, I seek protection for my life and beg anyone who hears my plea to come to my rescue.”

Honourable Aminu Boza, a member of the State House of Assembly, confirmed that the individual in the video is indeed the abducted Emir.

Meanwhile, the family of the Emir of Gobir, Sabon Birni, and the current Emir of Kudun Gatawa expressed shock, sadness, and confusion over the situation.
