Kaduna Gov’s Aide, Rachael Averik, Survives Assassination

Kaduna, Nigeria   — Hon. Rachael Averik, Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the Governor of Kaduna State, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Southern Kaduna on January 2, 2025.  

Rachael emerged unharmed from the attack, though her driver and police escort sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.

Attack Details  

The attack occurred between Tsauni Majidadi and Gani villages in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as Averik was returning from a condolence visit to the Arak Chiefdom and the commissioning of a hospital built by Alhaji Muhammad Umar Numbu.

In her account of the incident, Averik described how the assailants ambushed her vehicle and opened fire. A gunfight ensued, resulting in injuries to her driver and one of the accompanying police officers.

Public Outcry and Support

The attempted assassination has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many condemning the act and expressing their support for Averik. Social media users have offered prayers for her safety and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice.

One user wrote, “The culprits will never go free. This assassination attempt will return to those who planned it.”

 

The Kaduna State government has not issued an official statement on the attack, but the incident has raised concerns over security in the region.
