Imo, Nigeria — Operatives from the Imo State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have successfully neutralized two kidnapping suspects and rescued four victims in a raid against a notorious criminal syndicate operating in the state.
The operation took place on January 4, 2025, following a distress call received around noon reporting the abduction of three women and one man in Umuokanne, located in the Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
Police Raid Leads to Gunfight
Acting on intelligence, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit located the criminals’ hideout, where a gunfight ensued between the police and the suspects. During the operation, two suspects were killed, and the four victims—Carolyn Didia (42), Ego Odu (48), Apollonia Ezekwe (40), and Godwin Ezekwe (37)—were rescued safely.
The police also recovered one AK-47 rifle, 21 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a magazine from the scene.
Unfortunately, two of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation. They were promptly transported to Oforola Health Centre, where they are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Cooperation
The Imo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of the kidnapping syndicate.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye urged the public to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in enhancing safety efforts across the state.
