Nigeria – Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has reassured corps members of a planned increase in their monthly allowance to N77,000.
During the commissioning of a staff bus donated by Capital Express Insurance Company in Abuja, Ahmed confirmed that arrangements for the increment have been finalized. He pledged his dedication to ensuring the welfare and security of corps members, noting that the adjustments would take effect in 2025.
According to a report by Daily Trust, Ahmed emphasized his administration’s commitment to delivering all entitled benefits to corps members.
Currently, corps members receive a monthly allowance of N33,000, despite the signing of a new national minimum wage bill by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024.
The newly commissioned staff bus aims to alleviate transportation challenges faced by NYSC staff. Ahmed acknowledged the difficulties experienced by both staff and corps members in commuting and expressed gratitude to Capital Express Insurance Company for their generous support.
This development comes as a relief to many corps members, who have long anticipated an increase in their monthly allowance.
