Gunmen Abduct Two Reverend Sisters in Anambra State

Anambra State, Nigeria —  Unidentified gunmen have abducted two Reverend Sisters in Anambra State, sparking concern and prayers for their safe return.

 

The victims, identified as Sister Vincentia Maria and Sister Grace Mariette, were reportedly kidnapped along Ufuma Road in Orumba South Local Government Area. They were returning from a Vocational Association meeting in Ogboji when the incident occurred.

Sister Vincentia Maria serves as the Principal of Archbishop Charles Heerey Memorial Model Secondary School, Ufuma, while Sister Grace Mariette is a teacher at Immaculate Girls’ Model Secondary School, Nnewi.

In a statement, the Secretary General of the Sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Onitsha, Sister Maria Ikeotuonye, confirmed the abduction and called for urgent prayers for the safe release of the victims. “We appeal to God for their swift and safe return,” she said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, also confirmed the incident. He stated that a Police-led Joint Operation has been launched to rescue the abducted Sisters.

According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations have visited the crime scene to conduct an on-the-spot assessment. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and secure the victims’ release.

The incident has prompted widespread concern within the community, as authorities and religious leaders continue to work toward resolving the situation.
