ISWAP Overruns Military Base in Borno, Kills Four Soldiers

Borno ,Nigeria Tensions have escalated in Borno State as Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists launched a deadly assault on a military base in New Marte, resulting in the deaths of four Nigerian soldiers and the displacement of thousands of residents.

According to local sources, the terrorists stormed the area in large numbers on Monday, overpowering the troops in a fierce gun battle. The insurgents seized control of the military base, making away with arms and ammunition.

“They came heavily armed and overpowered the soldiers. Many of us fled into the bush and some are still trapped,” a resident reported.

The fall of New Marte, located in the Lake Chad Basin region, has led to widespread displacement as panicked residents sought refuge in nearby Dikwa town, about 27 kilometers away.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the terrorists are now in full control of the town, deepening fears among the civilian population and raising concerns about a resurgence of insurgency in the region.

Despite ongoing efforts by troops of Operation Hadin Kai to restore order, the renewed attacks by ISWAP have continued to pose a grave threat to security and stability in Borno State.

The Borno State government has expressed serious concern over the latest developments, urging for intensified military operations to curb the growing insurgent activities in the region.
