Imo State launches the distribution of 65,000 bags of rice to alleviate hunger among citizens

The Imo Government has begun distributing 65,000 bags of rice to mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal on its residents. Governor Hope Uzodimma explained that the removal of fuel subsidies was a necessary policy to save the economy from collapse. To address the resulting challenges of higher living costs and increased poverty, the Federal Government is providing support to states, including a N7 billion donation to each state. The support includes the distribution of food products to citizens, such as rice and maize. The rice distributed in Imo was locally sourced to support the value chain, and this effort is part of the first phase of the Federal Government’s palliative measures. Governor Uzodimma praised President Bola Tinubu for the initiative and acknowledged his expertise in economics.
