Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Government has commenced a review of the National Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Policy to enhance governance, accountability, and the effective implementation of policies under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement session in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Dr. Emeka Vitalis, emphasized that the policy revision would promote data-driven decision-making and ensure government resources are effectively utilized for national development.
“This review will guarantee that government programs and initiatives are directly beneficial to citizens”, fostering transparency and efficiency,” Dr. Vitalis stated.
Representing the Secretary to the[ez-toc] Government of the Federation, George Akume, at the event, Mr. Simon Tyungu underscored the importance of the updated M&E framework in tracking the performance of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in delivering on their mandates. He reiterated that the review aligns with President Tinubu’s campaign promises, ensuring public institutions remain accountable and result-oriented.
Similarly, Mrs. Olasumbo Ayinde-Yakub, Director of National Monitoring and Evaluation at the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, noted that the review would integrate global best practices into Nigeria’s governance system, strengthening transparency in public administration.
The National Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Policy was initially developed as a structured framework for assessing government programs, projects, and policies. The ongoing review aims to refine this framework, reinforcing accountability and efficiency in government operations nationwide.
