Abuja, Nigeria— The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has paid tribute to two of its former members, Chief Edwin Clark and Mrs. Adenike Ebunoluwa Oyagbola, acknowledging their significant contributions to Nigeria’s development.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presided over the FEC meeting at the State House in Abuja, where the council observed a minute of silence before proceedings commenced at approximately 2 PM.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, formally announced the passing of Mrs. Adenike Oyagbola, Nigeria’s first female minister, who served as Minister of National Planning between 1979 and 1983. She passed away on February 28, at the age of 93.
The council also mourned the death of Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information under the Murtala Mohammed administration in 1975. Clark, a respected elder statesman and advocate for national unity, had previously served as Midwest Commissioner for Education and Finance from 1966 to 1975 and played a key role in establishing the University of Benin. He passed away on February 17, at the age of 97.
Reflecting on their legacies, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reiterated the government’s commitment to honoring their service and contributions to the nation.
The council concluded with renewed acknowledgment of the enduring impact of these distinguished leaders on Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.
