FCTA Establishes  Committee to Address Almajiri Influx

Abuja, Nigeria —   The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has set up a security committee to tackle the increasing influx of Almajiri children and other individuals deemed security concerns in Abuja.

The decision was reached during an expanded security meeting held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, chaired by the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike. The meeting, attended by security chiefs and Area Council Chairmen, focused on strategies to manage population movement and strengthen security within the FCT.

Following the meeting, FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, announced the establishment of a security committee tasked with assessing the situation and recommending appropriate measures.

“The Minister has directed the formation of a committee to evaluate the influx of Almajiri and other groups posing security risks in the FCT,” CP Disu stated. “This committee will work closely with Area Council Chairmen to identify Almajiri schools, profile their organizers, collect their photographs and contact details, and assess the nature of training provided to the students.”

The committee, which includes representatives from the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), is expected to submit its findings to the Minister within two weeks.

Providing updates on security operations, CP Disu disclosed that law enforcement agencies had recently arrested individuals considered security risks to the FCT, assuring that more details would be made public upon completion of investigations.

He further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

“We all have a role to play in securing our environment,” CP Disu emphasized. “It is important to profile individuals entering our communities and remain alert to potential threats.”

The FCT Security Committee reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, pledging continued proactive measures to strengthen security across the Federal Capital Territory.
