Milan, Italy — Spanish football icon Cesc Fabregas has emerged as a top contender for the AC Milan managerial role, potentially taking charge of Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze next season.
The speculation follows mounting uncertainty over the future of Milan’s current head coach, Sergio Conceição, whose position has come under scrutiny after consecutive Serie A defeats to Torino and Bologna. With the club now languishing in eighth place, eight points adrift of the final Champions League qualification spot, Milan’s management is already considering possible successors.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia), Fabregas has become the leading candidate to take over, following an impressive start to his managerial career with Como. After guiding the club to Serie A promotion last season, the former Arsenal and Chelsea playmaker has continued to impress in Italy’s top flight, earning plaudits for his tactical intelligence and attacking philosophy.
“Fabregas has implemented an exciting, possession-based style at Como, which aligns perfectly with Milan’s long-term vision,” sources close to the club suggest. The Rossoneri’s management is eager to secure a dynamic, progressive coach and is aware that Fabregas is attracting interest from top European clubs.
While the Spaniard remains the frontrunner, Milan is also assessing alternative options. Maurizio Sarri and Roberto De Zerbi, both linked with Atalanta, are being considered as backup choices.
Sarri’s extensive Serie A experience and De Zerbi’s reputation for tactical innovation make them strong contenders. However, Fabregas’s rapid rise and modern coaching approach appear to have given him the edge in Milan’s managerial search.
As the season unfolds, Milan’s leadership is keen to act swiftly to secure the right candidate, ensuring stability ahead of the next campaign.
