England Secures Euro 2025 Qualification with Draw Against Sweden

England’s women’s team earned a goalless draw against Sweden in their final Euro 2025 qualifier, clinching their spot in next year’s finals. Italy and the Netherlands also secured qualification.

Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses needed only to avoid defeat to guarantee a top-two finish in Group A3, ensuring automatic qualification for the tournament in Switzerland next July.

In Gothenburg, England managed to hold off Sweden’s late pressure despite creating few chances. Sweden, needing a win to qualify directly, finished third in the group and will now compete in the play-offs later this year.

Alessia Russo nearly connected with a dangerous cross from Georgia Stanway, who later struck wide. Sweden’s defense was solid, with their first shot coming just before half-time when Hanna Lundkvist fired over the bar, and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s effort hit the side-netting.

In Group A1, Italy advanced with a commanding 4-0 victory over Finland, while the Netherlands secured second place with a 1-1 draw against Norway.

The UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 will be held in Switzerland from July 2 to July 27, with the opening match and final set for St. Jakob-Park in Basel.
