Abuja, Nigeria — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned four recovered title documents to victims of a sophisticated land fraud scheme in Abuja.
The title documents, reportedly forged by a criminal syndicate, were unlawfully used to dispossess rightful owners of their properties. Acting on intelligence reports, EFCC operatives apprehended the fraudsters and successfully retrieved the documents.
During the handover ceremony, EFCC Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, lauded the diligent efforts of investigators and the collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), particularly its Department of Land Administration and the Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS).
“We are gathered here to witness the handover of title documents recovered from fraudsters. This underscores our commitment to ensuring that criminals do not benefit from the proceeds of their crimes,” Olukoyede stated.
He described the bust as a result of painstaking investigations that exposed the fraudulent activities of syndicates operating within the FCT. Olukoyede assured the public that the Commission would continue its crackdown on land fraud in the region.
In his remarks, FCT Director of Lands, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze, commended the EFCC for restoring public confidence. “This collaboration has shown that justice can prevail. Fraudulent activities will not go unpunished,” he emphasized.
Among the beneficiaries were Mr. Asinobi Emmanuel Ogbuefi, who regained the title document for Plot 895, Kaura District, valued at over N150 million, and the family of the late Ambassador Joseph D. Daze, who recovered the document for Plot 714, Jahi District, worth over N400 million. Others included Mr. Nuhu Umar and Mr. Omar Ali Bintawa, who reclaimed properties valued at N200 million and N250 million, respectively.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Umar expressed gratitude to the EFCC for its relentless efforts in ensuring justice.
