Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is currently under the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with allegations of misappropriation of state funds.
Sources indicate that EFCC operatives are interrogating Bello as part of an ongoing investigation into financial irregularities during his tenure.
Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding how the former governor came into EFCC custody. While some reports allege that he was arrested, others suggest that Kogi State’s current governor, Usman Ododo, escorted Bello to Abuja earlier today and facilitated his handover to the EFCC. Additionally, there are claims that Bello voluntarily appeared at the EFCC office alongside his legal team.
The development follows the EFCC’s request for an adjournment during a court session on November 14, where the agency sought additional time to advance its investigation. The anti-graft body highlighted that the 30-day summons issued to Bello remained active, with the next hearing set for November 27.
Bello’s legal troubles mark a critical phase in the anti-corruption agency’s efforts to address financial accountability at the state level.
