Ebonyi mandates sanitation day, restricts movement

In a recent announcement, the Ebonyi Government has designated Saturday, July 1, as a state-wide sanitation day aimed at mobilizing residents to clean their surroundings. The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Victor. emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in a statement released to the press in Abakaliki. During the sanitation exercise, scheduled from 7 am to 10 am, all movement of individuals and vehicles across the state will be restricted.

Only those with valid identification and involved in essential duties, such as health officials and security personnel, will be exempted. It is All residents must ensureeanliness of their compounds, drainage systems, and surrounding areas. Violators of these sanitation measures will face legal consequences under the state’s Environmental laws, with arrests conducted by security personnel and Ministry of Environment staff. The Commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to combating environmental degradation and urged residents to contribute to the cleanliness and greenery of the entire state.

Furthermore, he warned against the improper disposal of waste in unauthorized areas and drainages throughout the state.
