Bauchi – The tragic stampede at an alms-giving event in Bauchi State has claimed seven lives, according to an update from the Bauchi State Police Command.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning at Shafa Holdings Company Plc on Jos Road, Bauchi, during the company’s annual Zakat (almsgiving) exercise. Initially, four deaths were reported, but police spokesperson SP Ahmed Wakil confirmed on Monday that three more women succumbed to their injuries.
Two of the additional victims died at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), while another passed away at home after being taken away by her family.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with women and children injured in the desperate rush for alms.
SP Wakil assured the public that investigations are ongoing, and more details will be provided soon.
This incident highlights the urgent need for better crowd control measures during humanitarian exercises to prevent further tragedies.
