Katsina, Nigeria — Suspected armed bandits launched a deadly attack on a joint team of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and vigilante members in Baure Village, resulting in the deaths of 21 local security personnel.
The ambush occurred on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM, as the team was returning from a condolence visit.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Katsina State Police Command revealed that operatives from the Safana Divisional Headquarters swiftly intervened to restore calm in the affected area.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, condemned the attack and assured the public that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible.
“The Command is resolute in its determination to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime face justice,” the statement read, adding that updates would be provided as the investigation unfolds.
The tragic event has plunged the local community into mourning, with residents expressing concerns over the continued threat posed by bandits in the region.
Authorities have called on citizens to remain vigilant and collaborate with security agencies in efforts to strengthen peace and stability in the area.
