Aiyedatiwa Inaugurates New LG Chairmen in Ondo

Akure, Nigeria  Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has officially sworn in the newly elected Chairmen for the state’s 18 local government areas, urging them to commence work immediately and prioritize the welfare of the people.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome) in Akure, Aiyedatiwa emphasized the weight of responsibility on the new council leaders. He charged them to listen to the people, understand their challenges, and provide responsive governance, noting that expectations are high, and failure is not an option.

He further stressed the importance of collaboration, advising the new chairmen to work closely with their respective Legislative Councils and career public servants to ensure effective administration. He reminded them of their duty to remain accountable to the citizens.

Highlighting the state’s ongoing structural reforms, the governor reaffirmed that the 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) are a permanent fixture, created to enhance grassroots governance.

“We all have a collective duty to ensure the sustainability of these LCDAs,” Aiyedatiwa stated. “They must foster mutual trust and inclusivity with their parent local governments.”

He described their new roles as a sacred trust, urging them to focus on selfless service, leadership, and fulfilling their campaign promises.

“This is not an opportunity for personal enrichment or self-interest,” he warned. “It is a social contract that must remain unbroken.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa also tasked the chairmen with making a tangible impact by improving basic amenities, infrastructure, and public services. He urged them to adopt a ‘People First’ governance approach, ensuring transparency, accountability, and citizen-focused leadership.
