Civil servants in Adamawa State are celebrating after receiving their August salaries, reflecting the new national minimum wage of N70,000. The salary increase brought relief, with workers praising the state government for fulfilling its promise.
Alhaji Danjuma Usman Mohammed, a driver at the Government House, Yola, expressed his gratitude, sharing plans to re-enroll his children in school after financial struggles. “I’m grateful for the N50,000 increase, which will greatly ease my family’s burden,” he said.
John Yusuf, a staff member at Adamawa State Television (ATV) Yola, also appreciated the increment, saying it would help him buy fertilizer and essential foodstuffs for his family.
The impact of the salary increase was evident at Jimeta Ultramodern Market, where many civil servants were seen purchasing goods.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri approved the new minimum wage for state workers starting in August 2024, with local government employees set to receive theirs from September.
