Disabled Students Shut Down Lagos Airport Roads — Demand Reopening of School

Lagos, Nigeria — Airport operations and road access around Murtala Muhammed Airport were thrown into chaos on Monday as hundreds of physically challenged protesters blocked major routes, demanding the reopening of a government-run school for people with disabilities.

The demonstrators, carrying banners of the Farmcraft Centre for the Blind, caused a massive traffic gridlock that left passengers and airport workers stranded. Many travellers were forced to trek long distances with luggage to catch their flights, with some at risk of missing departures entirely.

Protest leader, identified as Mr. Dolor, said the action aimed to draw President Bola Tinubu’s attention to the plight of disabled students whose education has been stalled for almost two years. “We have a school that gave us dignity, yet it has been shut without reason. Our pleas to the government have been ignored,” he lamented.

Dolor revealed that over 500 protesters had joined from across Lagos, vowing to remain at the site until authorities give a firm commitment to reopen the Isheri-based school and its branches.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, in a statement by spokesperson Obiageli Orah, issued a travel advisory warning of severe traffic delays and urged passengers to confirm flight schedules and consider alternative routes. The authority apologised for the disruption and asked travellers to stay updated through official channels.
