Nigeria: Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, personally supervised the demolition of structures hindering the construction of Arterial Road N16 in Gishiri village, Katampe District, Abuja.
The minister emphasized that residents had been adequately informed of the need to vacate the premises, having received eviction notices and compensation offers.
Wike stressed that the contractor, CGC, must complete the project by the end of May, and expressed disappointment that affected residents rejected the government’s compensation and relocation assistance despite a one-week extension granted at the village chief’s request. He reiterated the government’s commitment to relocating affected residents and ensuring due compensation, urging cooperation with the FCT Department of Resettlement and Compensation.
