Nigeria: In a landmark decision, the Nigerian government has allocated a significant budget increase to the Ministry of Women Affairs, marking the first major boost in 30 years
Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim hailed this move as a crucial step towards women’s empowerment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The increased funding will be channeled into various initiatives, including the revival of the National Electronic Dashboard to track gender-based violence, economic empowerment programs for women, digital skills training for girls, and strengthened child protection systems. The Minister emphasized the need for sustainable investments to accelerate gender equality, stressing that donor-dependent programs are unsustainable. With this budget increase, the Ministry aims to reach 4.5 million women with support and train 500,000 women in skills development.
