Women’s Day: Speaker hails Nigerian women’s role in growth

NigeriaThe Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, has commended Nigerian women for their vital role in driving the country’s socio-economic development

Speaking at the Women’s Policy Lab in Abuja, Abbas praised the dedication of 50 young women who developed solutions to address obstacles hindering women’s rights, economic empowerment, and political inclusion.

Abbas emphasized the importance of empowering women, highlighting their determination to excel despite cultural, economic, and political barriers. He urged state Houses of Assembly to endorse bills and proposals promoting women’s rights and encouraged the House to continue protecting women from violence and ensuring equal access to opportunities.

The event, organized by the House of Representatives and the Gender Mobile Initiative, demonstrated the government’s commitment to promoting women’s inclusion and gender-based initiatives. Chairman House Committee on Women Affair and Social Development, Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara, commended Abbas for his advocacy, reinforcing the importance of women’s participation in shaping the country’s future.

 

The Speaker emphasized that women should be allowed to take leadership positions in politics and the economy
