Nigeria: The Lagos State Police Command has reinstated the security details of Mojisola Meranda, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, after they were withdrawn on Thursday morning.
The Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, attributed the initial withdrawal to a personnel audit, which has since been completed. The reinstatement of Meranda’s security details comes amid a leadership tussle in the Assembly, as former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa insists he is still the rightful speaker, citing non-compliance with due process in his removal. Obasa’s supporters have been chanting solidarity songs, while Meranda has been recognized as the new Speaker after Obasa’s impeachment over allegations of impropriety.
