NBRRI Boosts Research Capacity with New Laboratory Equipment

Abuja, Nigeria  —   The Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) has unveiled plans to invest heavily in state-of-the-art laboratory equipment to combat recurring cases of building collapses and improve road infrastructure nationwide.

Director-General of NBRRI, Professor Samson Duna, made the announcement during a Thanksgiving service at ECWA Central Area, Abuja, following his reappointment as the institute’s Chief Executive Officer.

Prof. Duna emphasized that the institute’s renewed focus on research and innovation would drive the development of affordable and sustainable building materials, ensuring more Nigerians have access to cost-effective housing.

Reappointment and Endorsements

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Geoffrey Nnaji, lauded Duna’s reappointment, describing him as “a perfect fit for the role.” He expressed confidence in the Director-General’s ability to expand on past achievements and deliver on the institute’s mandate.

Senator Anthony Yaro (Gombe South Senatorial District) and Obed Shehu (Member, Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency) also endorsed Duna’s reappointment, commending his leadership and pledging their support for NBRRI’s continued progress.

Highlighting past achievements, Chief Daniel Makava, Director of the Consultancy and Extension Services Department, noted that under Prof. Duna’s first term, the institute had enhanced staff welfare, upgraded infrastructure, and procured cutting-edge equipment for testing construction materials such as steel and bitumen.

NBRRI reaffirmed its commitment to driving research that strengthens Nigeria’s infrastructure and ensures safer, more sustainable development.
