Akure, Nigeria — The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three students from the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA), in a distressing incident that underscores the growing security concerns in the region.
The students, who were undergoing industrial training at a farm near Akure Airport, were kidnapped on Saturday evening while returning home from Oke Oge in the Oba-Ile area of Akure North Local Government.
Security Agencies Mobilized for Rescue Operations
Confirming the incident, Funmi Odunlami, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, assured the public that anti-kidnapping operatives had been deployed to the scene to track down the perpetrators and ensure the safe return of the students.
Similarly, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the State Commander of Amotekun, acknowledged the abduction and confirmed that a coordinated security effort, like including local vigilantes and law enforcement agencies, which was underway to secure the victims’ release.
Ransom Demand Heightens Anxiety
According to a family source, the kidnappers have reached out, demanding a ₦15 million ransom for the students’ release, escalating tensions among relatives and the wider community.
The incident further highlights the ongoing security challenges in parts of Nigeria, particularly the rising cases of kidnappings for ransom, which have become a significant concern for both residents and authorities.
Security operatives have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as efforts continue to track down the kidnappers.
The statement concluded with a renewed commitment from law enforcement agencies to intensify security measures and curb the rising threat of abductions in the state.
