Ilorin, Nigeria — The trial of suspects linked to the murder of Mojisola Awesu, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, was postponed due to the absence of legal representation for two principal defendants.
The accused, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, are alleged to have conspired in Awesu’s murder on August 9, 2024. However, proceedings at the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, could not advance yesterday as both lacked defense counsel.
Due to this setback, Justice Ibrahim Yusuf ordered that Adebayo and Kolawole be remanded in a correctional facility, adjourning the case to February 24 for their proper arraignment.
A total of seven suspects appeared before the court in connection with the crime. Reports indicate that Awesu was allegedly lured to Ilorin by Adebayo and Kolawole before being murdered, with her remains later dumped at a waste site in Wara, Ilorin.
Further charges were brought against Adebayo’s parents, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, for allegedly concealing evidence, an act punishable under the Kwara State Penal Code Law of 2006.
Additionally, Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus face accusations of conspiring to dispose of Awesu’s body, a crime under the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.
