Osogbo, Osun State— The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has officially expelled former governor Rauf Aregbesola over allegations of anti-party activities.
The expulsion was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the state party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and secretary, Alao Olabisi Kamoru.
According to the statement, Aregbesola was granted an opportunity to defend himself during the disciplinary process, in line with the principles of natural justice. However, after a thorough investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) concluded that his actions had undermined the unity and integrity of the party, constituting a breach of the party’s constitution.
“With this decision, Rauf Aregbesola ceases to be a member of the APC and is barred from representing or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity,” the statement read.
Despite the expulsion, the party acknowledged Aregbesola’s past contributions but stressed the need to uphold party discipline and respect the decision of the leadership.
The move follows the recent departure of Aregbesola’s faction, the Omoluabi Progressives, from the APC.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Abosede Oluwaseun, the spokesperson, disclosed that members, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilesa, unanimously voted to exit the party in pursuit of a new political direction.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering unity within its ranks while maintaining that adherence to party principles remains non-negotiable.
