Ogbomoso, Nigeria — Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin Campus, staged a protest on Monday over the shortage of lecturers and rising costs of transportation and accommodation.
The protest, held at the Iseyin Campus in Oyo State, drew attention to the challenges faced by students due to the absence of lecturers who typically commute from the Ogbomoso main campus.
Addressing the press, a student who requested anonymity stated, “Agriculture department students are protesting the unavailability of farm facilities and other peculiar issues such as transportation costs, housing, and other basic needs.”
He appealed to the university’s education committee to intervene promptly by engaging with the school management to address the issues.
The students further called on the Oyo State Government to act swiftly in resolving their grievances, emphasizing the need to prevent disruptions to the new academic session.
In their demands, the protesters highlighted the financial strain caused by rising accommodation costs and the daily transportation of lecturers, which has affected the quality of education and academic activities on the Iseyin Campus.
Reflecting on the importance of timely solutions, the anonymous student said, “We appeal to the authorities to ensure that these challenges are resolved without delay to safeguard our academic future.”
The protest underscores the critical need for strategic interventions to address infrastructural and administrative gaps in satellite campuses.
